Can students have water bottles? - Yes they are highly encouraged to bring water bottles to use at school. They are only allowed to have water in them.
Can students eat snacks in class?- Yes students may eat during class as long as it is a healthy snack. Sugar should not be one of the top ingredients. Also, no messy snacks that will stain papers or carpet easily. Easy to eat healthy snacks are encouraged.
Can students have electronics?- Students may bring devices to school after the first several weeks. They need to be for learning purposes only, not for gaming or socializing. Students need to have a permission form on file, these went home the first day. They also need to ask teacher permission, each time, before being on line and have a research purpose. If they are using the electronics for reading books the device needs to be as big as a regular sized novel or larger. Students are not allowed to use cell phones for phone calls or texting during school hours and again need to have permission to use them for and during learning.
How do 6th grade teachers communicate with families? Parent involvement and communication is highly correlated with student success, so we are huge advocates of keeping the lines open and accurate between child, teachers, parents.
Students will fill out a Weekly Reflection form on Friday of each week to share how they're doing. Parents are asked to sign this on Fridays. Teachers will occasionally post notes here. Weekly Reflections are kept in student binders. These binders also contain current work in all classes and recent completed work and assessments. This evidence can be viewed by parents and teachers throughout the unit to track progress.
We are trying out a new web service called School Circle to send email newsletters, reminders, and quick notes to all families. We will enter your email onto the list and you will get automatic updates. Your email address will only be seen by the teachers.
